School Blog (11/06/21)

Welcome to the School Blog. Our students and staff continue to show great resilience and flexibility as we navigate closures of sections of the building to allow Wilmot Dixon access to relevant areas. Additionaly, we are especially grateful to Hope Parish Church for allowing us to use some of their facilities and space to deliver Sixth Form Dance classes.

I’d like to remind parents/carers that any students who has PE should attend in their PE kit on that specific day. Our changing room space is currently extremely limited.

We look forward to virtual meetings with parents/carers of students in Year 8 on Thursday, 17th June. Our virtual parents’ evenings have been well received, based on the feedback to date.

The Centre Determined Grades process continues to progress in school. Subject and Learning Area teams finalize moderations, while the School Leadership Team collaborates closely with Learning Managers to standardize findings within and across subjects. Moreover, local schools have held moderation events for some subjects.

Remember, our School Assessment Plan and Subject Assessment Plans are available on the school website. We will email provisional grades to examination class students in Years 10, 11, 12, and 13 on Friday, 18th June, or shortly thereafter, except for students taking BTEC qualifications.

Our friends in CAFA have received numerous entries for the Amusing Pet competition, and entries are now being judged, with results published in the School Blog next Friday. Thank you to everyone who participated in this fun event. The photos have brought smiles to many faces!

The Castell Alun Friends’ Association is participating in the Big PTA Summer Raffle 2021, a nationwide PTA spectacular, taking place between 26th May 2021 and 11th July 2021. Everyone can purchase tickets to support the school and have a chance to win up to £5,000 in each of the 12 draws. Visit Big PTA Raffle and search for Castell Alun Friends’ Association. Each £3 ticket will generate a number that will be entered into all five draws. Good luck to everyone!

Some students from other schools will visit us on Wednesday, 23rd June, as they seek to join our highly successful Sixth Form. This event is being ran in a COVID-secure manner.

One of our Year 8 students, Millie, recently competed in the first round of the British Westermans Women’s Motocross Championship. Amazingly, Millie led the race until the last lap, missing the win by only 0.1 of a second. We are very proud of her amazing achievement.

After a successful previous Euro campaign, many of us are excited to see the Welsh team compete in this major championship again this year. Pob Lwc Tim Cymru!

Have a lovely weekend!
