It has been another busy and exciting week at Castell Alun, with so much to celebrate across our school community. From welcoming a record number of prospective students and families to our Open Evening, to staff coming together to support Macmillan Cancer Support, and our continued work with Careers Wales to help students plan confidently for their futures, it has been a week that reflects the very best of Castell Alun. As always, we are incredibly proud of the contribution of our students, staff and wider community.
Record Breaking Open Evening
Our Open Evening was a fantastic success, with our highest number of visitors on record. It was wonderful to welcome so many prospective students and their families into Castell Alun and to give them the opportunity to experience everything our school has to offer. Open Evening is always one of the highlights of our school year, giving us the chance to showcase our learning, facilities, opportunities and, most importantly, the people who make our school such a special community.
A huge thank you goes to all of our staff for their hard work in making the evening such a success, and particularly to our fantastic students who gave up their time to help across departments, demonstrate their learning and act as guides for our visitors. They represented the school brilliantly and were a wonderful example of our values of Respect, Determination and Honesty. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped to make it such a memorable evening.
A Sweet Success
This week, our staff came together to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning, raising money and showing our support for the fantastic work of Macmillan Cancer Support. Staff put their baking skills to the test, bringing in an amazing selection of homemade cakes, bakes and treats for everyone to enjoy.
It was wonderful to see colleagues coming together over a cup of coffee and something sweet, all while supporting such an important cause. A huge thank you to everyone who baked, donated and took part – your generosity and support helped make the morning a fantastic success!
Supporting Students’ Future Careers
We are delighted to continue working closely with Careers Wales, with our dedicated Careers Adviser visiting school each week to provide valuable one-to-one careers guidance for our students. These individual meetings give students the opportunity to explore their interests, strengths and aspirations, while considering the different pathways available to them, including further education, apprenticeships, training and employment.
Having access to impartial, professional careers advice is an important part of helping our young people make informed decisions about their future and understand the steps they need to take to achieve their goals. Through this ongoing support, students are encouraged to think ahead, ask questions and begin planning a pathway that is right for them as they prepare for their next steps beyond school.

Lost Property
A reminder that each Friday, photographs of all unclaimed lost property are shared on the School Blog for parents and carers to view, as well as on Google Classroom for students to check. If students recognise an item, they should speak to their group tutor to arrange collection during registration or at another suitable time during the school day. Any items that remain unclaimed at the end of each half term will be donated to charity, so please do take a look each week to see if you spot anything familiar!

As another busy week draws to a close, we would like to thank everyone who continues to contribute to life at Castell Alun. Whether representing the school at Open Evening, supporting an important charity, or taking opportunities to think about future pathways, our students and staff continue to demonstrate our values of Respect, Determination and Honesty.
