Students at Lab in a Lorry

Students at Lab in a Lorry

Our Lower School Assembly today was on the theme of Internet Safety with readings from Hannah Ison and Callum Guest and a wonderful musical item performed by Georgia Arnold.

On Wednesday and Thursday this week the Science Learning Area hosted a ‘Lab in a lorry’ event for our Year 8 students.  The event was sponsored by the Institute of Physics and manned by STEM Ambassador volunteers.  Our students really enjoyed their opportunity to take part in lots of hands on activities, including looking at sound and land waves.

We have already received a large number of applications from students in other schools to join our highly successful Sixth Form.  Record numbers are once again anticipated this year.

We currently have two vacancies for Parent Governor representatives on our Governing Body.  Information has been sent home with students this week with details of how nominations can be made.  Please click here for a copy of the letter or ask your child to pick up a copy from Student Reception if you haven’t already received one.

Our Year 9 Options Parents’ Evening is taking place on Wednesday 8th March from 4pm.  Students will be given further information on all courses available in booklet form and in lessons immediately after half term.

On Wednesday BTEC dance students performed a showcase of some of their work for their friends and families .  Years 12 and 13 students: Abbie Offless, Zara-Louise Owens, Lewis Russell, Hannah Stevenson, Hannah Jones and Celyn Jones performed ‘Cats’.  Years 10  and 11 students, Nicole Roberts, Katie Taylor, Catrin Pickering, Abigale Poppy, Sadie Butler, Ellie Coppoack, Jessica Smith, Rhiannon Daly, Ella McGovern, Heather Jones, Lucy Price, Jessica Whitehurst, Tami Halfpenny, Alisha Mennet, Choe Rule, Lowri Parry, Lucy Bagnall and Lucy Parry were joined by the Illuminate Dance School. This event formed part of their exam and all students contributed and performed to a very high standard, with feedback from all in attendance being most positive.  Dance teacher, Mrs. Sharon Nesbitt, was very proud and impressed with the standard of her students’ work.

Good luck to Shannon Samuel, Samara Davies, Abi Chaloner, Nia Pritchard Taylor, Lucy Jones, Harriet Le Tissier, Lowri Hunt, Connie Jones, Caitlin Tilston, Olivia Roberts, Elin Faragher and Steph Williams who are travelling to Swansea on Wednesday next week to take part in the Under 16 Welsh National Hockey Finals.  Our sports teams are experiencing considerable success at present, with our Under 18 Girls’ Netball Team also recently qualifying for the national finals.
