Friday 14th June 2019

Welcome back to all students in Year 12 who have returned after examination leave.  It’s lovely to see everyone again.  I know you’ve had a busy and useful week with the talks and visits you’ve attended since coming back.

The weather was actually still in-keeping with the season on Monday, as 8R enjoyed a walk into Hope and Caergwrle to carry out Geography fieldwork.  As the sun has, again, now shown its face, all Year 8 students will be collecting data over the next week on the environment, traffic and pedestrian numbers in the two villages.

We are really proud of so many of our Year 7 students who have visited local primary schools this week to help Year 6 students with a smooth and stress-free move to Castell Alun in the summer.  The year has flown by, but one thing never changes, and that is the fact that our students are wonderful ambassadors for our school.  Thank you to everybody who has had an involvement in this process, and those yet to be involved during our science and technology project transition week in a couple of weeks time.

Congratulations to both Catrin and Becca of Year 12, who have just won a Bronze Certification in the National BTEC Awards 2019 for their commitment to sports studies and indeed participation at the very highest level.  The girls are extremely talented, have represented their country already, and are clearly capable of going on to yet greater things.

Really well done also to Seren of Year 8 who not only ran the ‘Race for Life’ in Rhyl successfully last weekend, but also claimed football club level awards for her participation, achievement, skill and enthusiasm at the close of the season.  Seren is a really gifted student who perhaps one day will be able to follow in the footsteps of girls who have come through our ranks and gone on to play for the National Women’s Team.

Although Matthew (Year 11) has been focussed on his GCSE examinations of late, this has not stopped him performing to the highest level on the golf course, and we are pleased to announce that Matthew will be competing for the Wales Boys’ Team in the European Championships in Poland next month.  Qualification for next year’s Masters is now open Matthew…..  it won’t be long before you are considering that seriously!

Today tickets have gone on sale for the ‘Night at the Musicals’ on Thursday 27th June.  The tickets are available from Mrs. Jan Southwell in the Finance Office at school and you will be stunned to see and hear a number of the items currently in rehearsal.  Please do come out and enjoy the concert, it promises to be a cracker!

As we look to next week our Year 9 students will sit CATS tests on Monday – there is nothing to revise for these assessments and no need to worry about them at all.  Also on Monday and Tuesday students in Year 10 will be involved in Welsh Baccalaureate Global Citizenship Challenge activities.  Worthy of note also, is the fact that the vast majority of public examinations are now complete and we want to say a big well done to all of our examination class students for their efforts and fine behaviour during this period.

This week a number of Year 12 Psychology students will enjoy a day at Glyndwr University on Wednesday in order to enhance their studies, and on Thursday we are all really looking forward to our Year 11 Prom.  The Prom is a really lovely event during which many of us observe first hand just how grown up our children now are and we are really hopeful for a sunny evening, a great atmosphere and a dance floor capable of hosting some seriously impressive dance skills!  Late on Friday evening, a number of students in Year 10 will depart on our trip to France and Germany, where they will undertake a variety of language learning and cultural activities, and doubtless return with many stories a week later.

Finally, good luck to our cheerleading team who will be competing in the Manchester Velodrome next Sunday.  The girls are in Years 7 to 10 and they are going to have great fun at the event, and hopefully pick up a prize!  Thanks to Holly (Year 13) and Miss Thomas for making this event possible.

Have a lovely weekend.
