Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unseasonably hot week. Our students have certainly appreciated being allowed to wear their PE kits in all lessons as this has enabled them to concentrate effectively in a more comfortable classroom environment.

Last night we held a wonderful Year 11 Leavers’ Prom at Llyndir Hall, Rossett. It was really a great evening and our students behaved impeccably, looked fantastic and had a brilliant time. Thank you to all parents and staff who played their part to make this event such a success.

We have undertaken a great deal of transition work over the last few weeks. Well done to all Year 7 students who visited primary schools to talk to their younger counterparts about life at Castell Alun. Some Year 7s even performed a presentation for school governors yesterday and, as ever, all of these students were fantastic ambassadors for our school. A large number of Year 6 students visited Technology and Science lessons at Castell Alun this week and got a taste of things to come! They were really excited about joining us in September. We would like to record our thanks to Arla Foods, Llandyrnog for their kind donation of 20kg of cheese which allowed many students to make pizza every day.

Well done to the students in Years 9 and 10 who walked up and down Moel Famau twice for charity this week, and raised a considerable sum of money for Cancer Research North West and Hope House.

Lower school students have been learning about the countries involved in the World Cup in Russia over the last few weeks.

Each tutor group produced a display, not only of sporting achievements, but also geographical and cultural aspects of their chosen country.

The winning board was assembled by 7M (Sweden), with runners up being 7R (Australia), 8S (Saudia Arabia) and 9M (South Korea). Well done everyone, especially 7M!

Many thanks to everyone who supported the CAFA Fashion and Fizz show on Friday. Due directly to your efforts we were able to contribute a further significant sum of money to our new school minibus fund. Well done everyone!

Congratulations to Joely (Year 9) who came first in the Cheshire Athletics League javelin event with a distance of 25.29 metres. Quite a throw! Our athletes also did an amazing job at the North East Wales event, with Junior Boys winning overall, Middle Boys being placed second and Middle Girls fourth.

A large number of students will embark upon their final Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition this weekend. This is an exciting, fun event, which will equip our students with many skills, and we would advise each of you also to take lots of sun cream!

We are very proud of our Dance Fest team, who performed at Theatre Clwyd on Friday last week. We have been complimented not only on our team’s performance, but also the way in which they conducted themselves and the technical support provided by Tom (Year 10) and Kamenka (Year 12).

Good luck to all of our Year 7 students who, at the time of writing this Blog, are competing in the Year 7 Flintshire Schools Athletics Competition at Deeside. It is also lovely to welcome so many students from other schools to Castell Alun today, who are interested in joining our Sixth Form in September.

Our Year 10 French trip departs on Monday and everybody is really looking forward to this educational visit. We look forward to hearing all report upon your return. On Wednesday we will hold our New Intake Open Evening and meet the parents/carers of our new Year 7 students. The evening begins at 6.30pm with a presentation in the Sports Hall. Parents/carers will have the opportunity to meet their son/daughter’s Group Tutor, take a tour of the school and have all questions answered during the evening. On Friday 6th July it’s the students’ turn, when we hold our New Intake Induction Day.

Its actually going to be an extremely busy week, as on Thursday a large number of our current Year 7 students visit the Eisteddfod in Llangollen. Our Year 12 trip to Berlin also departs in the very early hours of Friday morning. We won’t be there to wave you off, but will be thinking of you all! Have a great time everyone.

Have a lovely weekend.
