Friday 22nd June 2018

I am pleased to announce that our official external examination period closes on Monday of next week.  A very big well done to everybody who sat exams, to teachers who prepared students for exams, and to parents/carers who supported children through this difficult time.

Congratulations to all of our students who undertook their final Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition last weekend.  I know you had a lot of fun and I am confident that you have acquired skills which will prove extremely useful for the coming years.  A number of our Year 11 students will go on their Silver expedition next weekend.

Please don’t forget CAFA is holding our Fashion and Fizz evening tonight, and tickets can be purchased on the door.  Funds raised will go towards the provision of a new school minibus.

Next week we will welcome a large number of Year 6 students into school on day visits.  This is part of our annual transition process and these students will be treated to learning experiences in the Science and Technology Learning Areas over the course of their time with us.

We bid a final farewell for the academic year to our Year 11 students at their Leavers’ Prom on Thursday.  The event is always a colourful and joyous occasion, and indeed one of the real highlights of our school year.  How time has flown!

Congratulations to three of our ex students: Anthony, Catrinand Travis, who all scooped major awards at a recent local further education awards evening.  We are extremely proud of you, and remember….once a Castell Alun student always a Castell Alun student!

Annabel, Year 7, also deserves a special mention this week, as she has won an Under 18s competition at Mold Golf Club, despite being six years younger than some of the other competitors.  Tremendous stuff Annabel!

And finally, we would like to wish John, Kalum, Ethan and Rhys all the very best, as they seek to complete 200 miles on their bikes in aid of Cancer Research UK this week.  Next week some of our Year 9 and 10 students will also complete a charity event, walking up and down Moel Famau twice.

Enjoy your weekend.
