School Blog (23/02/24)

Welcome to the School Blog. On Monday, we held our Curriculum for Wales training day and were joined by colleagues from primary schools. It was fantastic to welcome these teachers to Castell Alun, ensuring that we all work together as we step into this new era of Welsh Education.

This collaboration will continue for years to come, and we’re excited about the opportunities the new curriculum is already bringing to our students. Diolch yn fawr to our entire team, including our primary colleagues, for all your efforts in establishing this curriculum.

We are eagerly anticipating Dydd Gwyl Dewi on Friday, 1st March. Our celebration will include our annual assembly, focused on the meaningful message of doing the little things, or y pethau bychain. The Welsh department will also host engaging activities like Welsh bingo, a scavenger hunt, and some craft sessions. We take pride in our Welsh heritage, and it’s vital to promote the positive message St. David offers us.

A huge well done to Hatty and Megan (Year 7), who represented Flintshire School Girls last weekend and played against Wrexham School Girls at Flint Town Football Club, achieving great success. Bethan (also Year 7) had a fantastic weekend too, qualifying for the NE Wales Squad Cross Country team.

Looking ahead, we wish pob lwc to our students representing North East Wales in the Intercounties Trophy in Cardiff this weekend. Good luck to Ruby and Daisy (U18s), Ffion, Alex and Sophie (U16s), and Erin, Phoebe and Lucy (U14s).

Further into the future, we also want to extend pob lwc to our Sixth Form Football Team, who will face Friars School, Bangor, in the U18s Welsh Cup QF at home next week. Special mention to Tom (Sixth Form) for his selection to play rugby for Wales U18s. What an honour—di iawn, Tom!

Next Thursday evening, we look forward to meeting the parents of our Year 9 students. This Parents’ Evening is crucial as students consider their GCSE (or equivalent) subjects and prepare for Year 10 in September 2024. Specialist advice will be available from subject tutors, and Mrs. Gail Davies will give talks on the KS4 Curriculum throughout the evening.

Tomorrow morning, CAFA will host a Table Top sale in the Sports Hall from 10 am to 12.30 pm. Everyone is welcome, and all proceeds will support the school. We encourage you to join us and make it a successful event.

Next week, we won’t have a School Blog, as several school computer systems will be updated at Castell Alun. However, you can still contact the school as usual, and staff will reach out if needed. See you back for our next School Blog on Friday, 8th March!
