School Blog (19/04/24)

Welcome to the School Blog. Our new term is in full flow, and our older students have already started some of their examinations. We are pleased to report that oral examinations for Welsh and Modern Foreign Languages are well underway, and the majority of students are managing this demanding period very well.

Typically, at this time of year, our School Blog may be a bit shorter as our main focus centres on examinations. However, we strive to ensure that students in all year groups still receive a broad range of experiences, even when the exam halls are in use. Today, some of our lower school students will participate in a bulb-planting workshop with Kehoe Countryside. Kehoe will return in July to reuse timber from felled trees to create raised beds and benches, with students assisting in this process as well.

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome students from Parc Y Llan, Park CP, Penyffordd, St. John’s, Bwlchgwyn, and Broughton for the second of our Year 6 Wellbeing Days. It was wonderful to spend time with these younger students, who engaged enthusiastically in various performing arts and sporting activities. It’s clear we will have a highly talented Year 7 intake in September!

Congratulations to Year 12 student Tom, who represented the Wales U18 Rugby team in the Six Nations tournament in Parma, Italy, over Easter. Tom played in three matches against England, Portugal, and France. His outstanding performance was highlighted by the match commentary team on television. Rhagorol Tom! You made both yourself and the school proud.

Additionally, llongyfarchiadau to our Year 10 Boys’ Rugby team for their narrow 17-12 victory against Glan Clwyd in the Clwyd Cup. Following this hard-fought win, our team advances to the RGC Final, and we have high hopes of bringing back the silverware to Castell Alun!

Finally, we extend an invitation to the CAFA Quiz Night tonight. Despite other local events this weekend, our quiz night promises to be great fun, with Mr. Kevin Davies, Governor and former Assistant Headteacher, as our guest host.

The forecast looks promising for the weekend… let’s hope it’s accurate!

See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
