Having enjoyed a long weekend, our Key Stage 3 students completed their statutory literacy and numeracy tests this week. For some of these children it was their first experience of school exams in the formal setting of the Sports Hall, and we were very pleased indeed with the way in which our students coped with the environment and assessment conditions.

Year 12 students begin their exam leave today and return to school on Monday 11th June, when they will undertake a Welsh Bacc. challenge, before returning to normal curriculum on Monday 18th June. The Welsh Bacc. qualification is recognized by a great majority of universities nowadays and has proved incredibly helpful in getting our students onto their first choice courses in recent years. We wish all Year 12 students the very best with their exams over the next 3 weeks.

We’ve had further sporting success. On Thursday our Year 7 gymnasts performed exceptionally and brought back a whole host of medals from a 5×60 Key Stage 3 Gym Competition.  All girls attend our school Gym Club on Tuesdays at 3.25pm, and many of our girls triumphed over competitors who are members at local gym clubs also.

Well done to our Junior and Middle Boys Athletics Teams, who were both victorious recently in the competition at Deeside and have won the right to represent Flintshire in the regional round of the competition in the near future.

We now have only 2 weeks to go until half term – how time flies! Our students are coping well with the pressures of exams, but if your son / daughter would benefit from having a chat with an appropriate person about strategies to help manage time and workload, please do contact his / her Student Development Manager.

Enjoy the weekend.
