School Blog (19/11/21)

Welcome to the School Blog. We appreciate the lovely weather over the past week, which has allowed us to offer ample outdoor time for all students. This opportunity has been especially valuable as we admire the progress of our new building and site developments.

Recently, three of our students, Louisa (Year 11), Bella (Year 10), and Abbie (Year 8), participated in a prestigious TEDx public speaking event at Theatr Clwyd, Mold. Our students emerged as finalists from a large pool of other schools. The event, leading up to COP 26, provided young people with a platform to voice their opinions on environmental issues. Hosted by Welsh presenter Iolo Williams, all three girls delivered outstanding and thought-provoking speeches. Their incredible passion for the changes needed to protect our planet truly shone through. We are immensely proud of Bella, Louisa, and Abbie, and are pleased to announce their speeches will soon be available on the TED YouTube channel. These students serve as exceptional ambassadors for Castell Alun, and their accomplishments will undoubtedly impress future employers. Superb work, girls!

Inspired by the ‘Lanterns at Chester Zoo’ initiative, Haydn (Year 11) has developed his own ‘Bali Starling’ lantern figure. He crafted it using galvanised wire for the support frame, old recycling bags as a cover, and white feathers for the starling. Haydn’s lantern features around 100 ice-white Christmas lights inside, controlled by a mechanical timer. The finished product is simply stunning, showcasing Haydn’s bright future in engineering.

Our friends at CAFA (Castell Alun Friends’ Association) are running their weekly lottery again this year to support our school. We would love for everyone to participate and thank those who have already got involved. If you would like to buy tickets or are interested in this scheme, please follow the link.

Today is Children in Need Day, and each of our students has been encouraged to donate £1 for this worthy cause. All students are out of school uniform today and clearly enjoying it. However, we ask that everyone returns to normal school attire on Monday.

We have a budding TV star in our midst! Congratulations to Aerona (Year 9), who now appears in the ‘Very’ Christmas advert on television. Who knows where this could lead? Many Hollywood greats began their careers in advertisements like these.

School Cloud appointments are now available for our Year 12 virtual Parents’ Evening on Thursday, 25th November. We look forward to continuing our partnership with parents, carers, and Sixth Form students to support everyone in achieving their potential and following their dreams.

Have a really nice weekend. As always, see you back here soon for the next School Blog!
